Squat University
Missing a snatch forward like this athlete is one of the most common frustrations for Olympic lifters. If we slow this lift down you can see he loses his back stability off the ground as his hips rise quickly, the bar then loops away from the body a good amount during the rest of the pull, leaving the barbell in an unstable forward receiving position.❌
.
If we compared his bar path to that of Olympian Fernando Reis @rreisfernando, you can see his snatch has a much more forward path, and doesn’t mimic the optimal “s” curve we look to see with most snatches.🏋🏼‍♂️
.
Here’s a recommended fix progression from 2x Olympian Chad Vaughn. Start with a snatch deadlifts pausing an inch off the ground to address the stability fault in the initial pull. Feel for the your body staying balanced across the entire foot and not shifting forward onto your toes or back onto your heels. Follow this with 2 no touch no foot movement snatches from the knee and finish the complex with a regular snatch (contacting at the hip and optimal foot movement).
The no touch is used to help limited the over extension or forward hip thrust that is pushing the bar out and help smooth the extension and contact out once they go back to the regular lift. The no foot movement will make it easier to achieve the no contact and further limit the over extension/forward hips.🙌🏼
.
Shout out to @piyush_pandey for being today’s athlete model and @olychad for the collaboration in making this technique fix post…we’ll check back in to see the improvement in this lift soon!🙌🏼
