Squat University
One of the most common reasons for the chest collapsing during a front squat is because athletes don’t first establish a good bottom position. When you are off balance in the bottom position, it kills your ascent.❌
.
This problem can occur due to two main reasons: poor ankle mobility and too big of a hip hinge.🤯
.
Poor ankle mobility limits your ability of the knees to translate forward towards the toes on the descent. In order to keep descending something has to compensate. Often this means the chest falls forward.❌
.
If you push your hips back a lot during the descent of a front squat with a big hip hinge, the chest will fall forward. Make sure your hips always start the movement but the barbell MUST stay over your mid foot! A balanced descent puts you in a good bottom position and allows you the potential for a great looking ascent.🙌🏼
