Squat University
What are the qualities of a good air squat? The first step is to ensure good foot stability by grabbing the ground with your toes. Concentrate on spreading your bodyweight across three points of your foot (creating what is called the tripod foot).✅

Next, spread the ground underneath you as you drive your knees slightly to the side (some people like the cue “screw the feet into the ground”). This enhances lower body stability and turns on your lateral glutes.✅

Once your lower body is set correctly, start your squat by hinging at your hips. Keeping your arms in front of you as you squat can keep your back in a good positon. Almost everyone should reach a depth of the hip crease below the tops of the knees. In this position, most will have a fairly inclined chest position in order to stay balanced and keep the bodies center of gravity over the mid foot. This is why slamming someone up against a wall to try and conform to a vertical chest position is not a good teaching method.❌

If you cannot perform this bodyweight air squat with quality movement technique, work on it before moving to barbell lifts as loading poor technique will only lead to injuries down the road.🥊
